I get a lot of emails from readers of my blog asking me for help indexing their links.

In this tutorial i’ll share with you how to get your backlinks indexed fast in Google.

I’ve used this method in the past and it works. If you follow the steps, you too can get your backlinks indexed in Google quickly.

Got your Backlinks done from your SEO Guy but dont see any rise in Rankings yet ? Here’s how to

Step 1: Collect all your backlink URL’s created for your site from Article Submissions, Blog Comments, Profile Links, Blog posts, Press Releases into a Text File. (Text Doc)

Step 2: Create an RSS Feed using the text doc containing all your backlink URL’s. You can use IceRocket’s Free RSS Builder Tool. Make sure you add your relevant keywords to your description for the feed.

Step 3: Submit your Backlinks Feed to RSS Aggregators. You may do this using RSS Submit. Its easy to use and the basic version is free. (if you’re a verified newsletter subcriber to my blog, email me  asking for how to get the full version for free !)

Step 4: Bookmark your RSS Feed on multiple Social Bookmarking sites like digg. You may use BookMarking Demon or a free app like SocialMarker.

Step 5: Ping your feed. You may ping your feed using Pingomatic which is free to use and quick.

Now all you have to do is wait for the links to get indexed and for your site rankings to go up !

I’ve moved on from using this technique to using an awesome paid tool that gets all my links indexed within minutes. I’m not going to share that tool details yet ! Maybe next year

You’ve got a FaceBook page that looks great and are getting lots of fans, but are you happy with the limited demographic details that facebook offers about your visitors ?

In this post I’ll show you how to track if your FaceBook page is working for your business.

How to track Keywords used to arrive at your FB Page, traffic sources and much more using Static FBML.

Step 1: Create a Google Analytics account ( in case you don’t already have one ) and create a new website profile for your facebook page. Enter the domain as facebook.com and even though you will be told that you have to activate or verify the site don’t worry about that. Once the profile is created you will get a code that looks like UA-4124123-1

Step 2: Create your custom image tag for each page. Enter the Tracking code into this Free FBGAT Tool here or download the script from here and host it on your own server (courtesy of webdigi.co.uk). In the analytics code you’ll enter the code given to you by google analytics, in the domain you’ll enter the site url used to create the tracking code ( facebook.com ) and in the page link enter the page link to identify which page the tracking is for. Once done you’ll get your custom code to be added to your FBML page.

Step 3: Add the Custom code to your Facebook page using Static FBML . I recommend adding the code to the bottom of the page so that it does not interfere with your page.

That’s all there is to it. Let the analytics pull the data and use it for your tracking purposes. Of course you could take it another step and distinguish fans and non fans visits and activity by setting up funnels, goals and segments.Webdigi has graciously shared their code for distinguishing fans and non fans activity on their FB page here .

Implement the above steps properly and you’ll see the results. Since everyone has not started listing their business in local listings there is a need to rank higher in local listings.

I’ll share the Five Proven Steps To Rank Higher in Google Local Listings.

How to Rank Higher in Google Local Listings

1) Add Keywords to your Company Name and Description : If your Business Name happens to have your Keywords in them then definitely use that name in the listing. Don’t make up a new name with the keywords just for the listing. Google gives you the ability to add a description describing what services the company offers. Make sure your content has your keywords along with Location added along with the prime features. This description is used by google in calculating rankings.

2) Add Logo, Photos and Video : Make sure you take advantage of Google’s option to add your Logo to your listing. Also add as many photos and Video’s that show the viewer who you are and what your Business is about. This lets them know more about your business and how you can help them. The more photos you add the better it is. Do make sure the quality of the photo’s and Video’s are decent.

3) Get Tons of Reviews : The more the reviews that you have the better your listings stands out from the rest. Don’t make the mistake of faking reviews, you will get caught and its not worth it. Get as many reviews from previous clients who have used your service in the past. Have your reviews have your Location in them. Reviews play a strong role as to whether the visitor would click on your site URL.  Think about it, which Dentist would you rather go to.. one with 5 Good reviews or one with 50 Great reviews ?

4) Add a Company Coupon : A lot of people don’t know you can add a Company Coupon to your local listing. Nothing gets more traffic then a great coupon offer. Create an Urgency to use the Coupon. Make the customers see value in you through your coupons.

5) Create One Way Links for Your Listing : Now that you’ve optimized your local listing, you need to create one way links for it. Just like any other page on your website you need to push it higher in rankings and one way links does the trick. You can get links from indexed articles on top article sites, links from your own website, your social profiles. These links will push your listing higher in rankings.

This is the third and final post in the Series on Local Search Engine Optimization. In this post i’ll show you how to get your Business listed in Bing Local Listings. Last week we talked about Yahoo Local Listings.

People ask me ” Why do i need my Business Listed in Local Listings on Search Engines ? “  I then ask them a simple question” Do your Customers finds you through local searches on Bing ?“  That answers their question on geographic targeting.

So let me show you How to Get your Business Listed in Bing Local Listings in 3 Easy Steps.

STEP 1 : Provide Your Business Details

Visit Bing Local Listing Center and log in using your Windows Live Username and Password. You’ll then be prompted to enter your Business Name, Address, Telephone. Bing Verifies if your Business is already listed and if not will create a new listing for you.

STEP 2 : Choose Categories and Info about Your Business

Here you can choose your relevant categories and enter all the information on services that your business provides. Bing also allows you to provide links to relevant pages on your site. Eg A Cellular Dealer may provide links to their Specials Page, Contact Form, and Reviews on Ebay.

The more info you provide about your Business adding the right keywords to your description, the better your listing will rank.

STEP 3 : Verify Your Listing

Just Like Google Local Listings you may choose to verify your listing by Phone or by regular mail. Once you’ve verified, your listing will go live in a few weeks.

Bing Local Listing is currently only available to US Business. There are some rumors that it may be available to UK Business as early as next November.

Also we have noticed that bing verifies listing from an independent database.  You can add your listing here if you’re business is outside the US and your listing may get listed before others once bing starts local listings in your country.

You may also be aware that Yahoo and Microsoft have entered into an agreement where bing will be the default search engine on yahoo.com. This should be enough for you to add your listing on bing today !

Yahoo Local Listing are a great way to get targeted traffic to your site or qualified leads from people interested in your product or service.

Unlike yahoo adwords,  yahoo business local listings can be free or a flat monthly fee.

I’ll show you in 3 easy steps how to get your business listed in yahoo local listings.

STEP 1 : Provide Your Business Details

Visit Yahoo Local Listings (US)  or Yahoo Local Listing ( Canada) and log in using your yahoo username and password.  Once logged in you’ll enter your name, business address, telephone, website URL ( if you have one ) hours of operation.  For those working as consultants from home, you get to decide if you want your business address listed or just your telephone and email and website.

STEP 2: Choose Your Categories

Only choose relevant categories for your business listings.  If you’re an SEO Firm then you may consider a category like Internet Marketing.  You’ll choose your main category and then choose the appropriate sub category. You may choose multiple categories for your listing.

STEP 3: Review your Listing and Confirm

Once you have added your details then you can review how your listing will be displayed and submit your request for a free basic listing or choose an upgraded ad for a flat monthly fee.

You have 3  options

1) Basic Listing for free

2) Enhanced Listing for $9.95/month that allows you to add a logo, links to coupons

3) Featured Listing for approx $25/month for top placement.

Ever done a google search for a service in your own area and seen listings for local providers show up on google maps BEFORE your normal google search results ?

Yes, you know what i’m talking about. You probably wondered how did they get there? I wish my Business was also listed on top of the local search results.

Well Now you can ! I’ll show you how in 3 Easy Steps.

I’ve seen firms have great Internet presence, however have weak local Internet presence. Its important to have a Strong Local Presence and this can be easily done using the 4 steps that i have listed below. It takes a few minutes to do it your self and is well worth it. This is Part 1 of a 3 Part Guide on How to Get Your Business Listed in Local Search Engine Listings. ( Google, Yahoo and Bing )

STEP 1 : Provide Your Business Details

Visit Google Local Business Center and log in using your Google/Gmail Username and Password. You’ll then be prompted to enter your Business Name, Address, Telephone, Email, Website URL, a Brief Description of your Business ( 200 words max ) and up to 5 Categories for your Business.

STEP 2: Choose Your Verification Method

Once you have entered your Business Listing Details then you’ll have 2 Choices for Verification

(i) Phone Verification : Where Google calls the telephone provided

(ii) Mail Verification : Where Google sends you a postcard with a verification code

I’d recommend taking the mail verification as its better then waiting for a call. And you could get lucky and get a $100 Adwords Coupon from Google. Here’s what the verification card looks like.

STEP 3: Confirm Verification Using Code

Verify your listing using the verification code either given to you on the phone or on the post card from Google and your listing will go live in about 6 weeks.

As you can see adding your site to be listed in Google Maps Local Listing is simple and easy. You dont need to hire a Professional SEO firm to do this for you. However for those who dont have the time and would rather hire someone to do this for them, feel free to contact me

What i showed you was how to get the basic listing in Google Local Ads. Well recently Google took it a step forward and now offers an upgrade where you get a unique phone number from Google for tracking calls that you get from visitors to your local listing ad, ability to add Coupons, Detailed report on the calls received, clicks to your ad, driving directions to your business.

This upgrade is available for a flat monthly fee which varies based on your location, categories and is only available in San Francisco and San Diego, California for the moment.

Next Steps To Get Your Business Listed in Yahoo Local Listings

As promised in my previous write up on why Business’s need to have a blog i’m writing on what not to do with your blog.

I see this happen a lot with Business Blogs. They have a great site and have a link to their blog, which when clicked go to their blog thats on a separate site hosted as a sub domain on blogspot or wordpress.

It just does not make sense to me and drives me crazy seeing this.

Dont get me wrong. I’m a great fan of WordPress. In fact my own site is on wordpress !  Let me tell you what not to do with your Business Blog and why you should not be having it on Blogspot or WordPress as a sub domain.

Here are my Top 4 Reasons for why not to have your Business Blog on Blogspot

Reason 1 : Unprofessional

It Looks Unprofessional to have a Business Blog as a Free subdomain on Blogspot or WordPress or any other Free Blog Site. You really lose credibility and your authority level diminishes.  Get your blog hosted on YOUR OWN site. You can use WordPress as a subdomain on your own site and it looks so much better and is easy to install.

Reason 2: Traffic

By hosting your Business Blog on Blogspot as a freeby you are actually taking customers AWAY from your own site and on to blogspot, free to visit another blog. Do you really want that to happen ? You spend so much time getting customers to your own site only to have them leave as they click on your blog link.

Reason 3 : Loss of Search Engine Standing ( SEO Loss )

You do all this Search Engine Optimization for your Blog to get targeted traffic and your Blog gets a nice High Page Rank. But your site does not gain PR, its the Blogspot or WordPress site that is actually benefiting. Think about this : Can you get the PR transferred with your blog should you move your blog from the free blog on blogspot to another blog platform ? NOOOOOOO

Reason 4 : Moving is a NiteMare

Ever tried to move your blog from blogspot to your own blog on your own site ? It is a nitemare moving all the articles, the comments. These free blogs on blogspot dont make it easy for you to move. Why ? They dont want you to leave.  Why should they ? They gave you a free blog and what more can you expect.

Also there is something i need to clarify. I know i keep mentioning blogspot ! I’m not targeting them. I actually am referring to any blog platform that allows you to host a free blog as a sub domain on THEIR site.

I get asked all the time by Business Owners Why they need to have a Blog and What good does it do for them.

I hear them say that they dont have the time, the technical knowledge or the money to set up blogs.

They have no idea at the opportunities that they are missing out on. So i decided to share my thoughts with everyone on why every business should have a blog and be blogging.

First of all I’m gonna cover why every firm should have a Blog and then what not to do while setting up your blog.

Reason 1: Positioning

Positioning is about how you are perceived by your audience. Don’t confuse positioning as branding, its more then that. Its how you communicate to your audience what you are about and how you can help them. A Great blog can create credibility for your business in your industry. Blogging about your perspectives on recent events within your industry sets you as an authority within your Industry.

Reason 2: Communication and Interaction

At the end of each blog post that you make, most blog platforms like Word press allow readers to post their comments and feedback. You can encourage your readers to post their feedback and get them involved in your blog. It gets readership to be high and lets you know how your customers are thinking. This also lets you know what are your customers looking for so that you may provide them solutions accordingly. eg Your customers are looking for phones with ability to email and you keep on carrying phones without email functionality. So using Comments on Blogs you can see what your customers are looking for. Also its free market research, where you get to get real feedback from customers on how they feel about your firm.

Reason 3: Visibility and SEO

When you post blog posts you are essentially adding new content to your site. New content means more pages which means that search engines will index your site more often. Its important to ensure your content is unique and added on a regular basis. Now if you have properly placed your top keywords in the blog posts then Search Engines would rank your site higher for those keywords. Eg. Say your Blog is about Encryption Software and you would like to get ranked high for that. You would ensure that keywords like Data Encryption, data security, data encryption software, data security software, full disk encryption are included in your content  so that you get targetted visitors to find your blog post and thus know more about your products and services. This co relates to my next point.

Reason 4: Lead Generation
You can softly and discretely mention about how your products and services can benefit your readers in your blog posts. You can hyperlink your products and service pages in your blog post. Here’s how you do it. What you do is talk about a problem or situation that you know readers are facing and then you show your expertise by giving advice on how to deal with the situation and how your product can actually help them in their scenario. You should provide the ability for the reader then to click to a contact page for more assistance. This then leads to a lead for your firm. Reason 5: Recruitment

A blog is a great way for you to show your values and thus let your HR Department to attract wanted Talent to your firm. When  people search for new jobs they do google to find firms that are in their field and seeing your blog they may relate to you.  A warm and informative blog can make good talent feel a connection and make them approach your HR Department to look at opportunities.  Of course you may also post all opportunities on your blog as well along with a contact form.

Having said all this, i hope that you can see why your firm should have a blog and why you should be blogging. Remember its easy to set up a blog on your site. WordPress is a free blog solution that can be hosted on your server.  In case you need an expert to install it on your website you could always outsource that to a wordpress expert.  Also you could just post one blog post per week and its good enough. In case you dont have time to even post one blog post  you could again outsource it by getting a professional blog post writing service .
