List of Free and Paid Software to Reset Your Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 Login Password

1) Ophcrack : This is a FREE Windows Password Recovery Software to assist you actually RECOVER your password. Its compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. You can visit their site here and download their ISO and burn it to a CD and follow the instructions.  Its relatively easy to use. You use the LiveCd Version and there’s no need to install any software, just run it to ecover your password. Downside is since its open source there’s no Support and they are not liable for any damage to your system. ( And neither am I ).

2) Offline NT Password & Registry Editor : This is a FREE Windows Password Reset Tool by Petter Nordahl-Hagen. It actually deletes existing passwords allowing you access to your computer as if no password had ever been set. It works on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 and is pretty fast. You can download the password reset tool from here.  All you have to do is download the ISO, burn it to a CD and run it and let it do its magic.  Since this Password tool is open source, there’s no support and Petter ( nor I ) will not be liable for any damage or misuse of this tool.

3) Spotmau PowerSuite 2010:  This is a Premium Windows Password Reset Tool.  It’s makes password reset a walk in the park even for non tech savvy folks. It works on Windows 200, XP, Vista and Windows 7.  In fact the PowerSuite 2010 does a lot more then just Password Resetting. It will fix any registry issues, fix corrupted files, find license keys for any Microsoft products on the computer, rescue data from damaged disks, clone/transfer/backup your data to a new drive if needed, optimize and speed up your computer and a lot more.  It normally retails for $99.95 and its currently on sale for only $49.95 and can be purchased from Spotmau PowerSuite 2010 here . (This is an affiliate link and using it may bring compensation to me) . It comes with full instructions and 24/7 Email Support is provided as well in case you need it. I doubt if you will since the product does it all for you, just download it and burn to a CD ( you can also buy a CD Version ) and run it.

In this post i’ll show you how you can Reset your Windows Admin Password allowing you access to your Computer.  These steps will work on Windows 2000 and XP only.

I’ll cover windows password recovery tools that will make your job easy in case you have forgot your admin password and don’t want to go through the technical steps involved in a later post.

Of course these steps may not work on a Computer that is protected by Encryption Software..

Password Reset for Windows XP Using Windows XP CD

1. Insert your Windows XP CD into your drive and start your Computer.
2. Make sure your system boots from the CD
3. On the Welcome to Windows Screen press Enter
4. From the Setup Screen choose the option for Repair
5. Let Repair run and copy the files needed. Once done you’ll get prompted that the system needs to reboot, let it
6. While rebooting in the Lower Left Hand Corner once you see ” Installing Devices ” Press SHIFT + F10
7. A Command Console will open up and at the prompt type in  NUSRMGR.CPL and Enter
8. You’ll see the User Accounts Console open up
   
9. Choose the Account you need to change the password for
   
10. Continue with the Repair Process where you will be promoted for your Windows Product Key

And You’re All Set ! Please don’t use these steps on a computer that is not yours. I’ll not be held liable in any way possible. The steps have been disclosed to assist users who are trying to access their own computer or are authorized to do so.

Also the above steps will work on all Versions of Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

Password Recovery for Windows Vista and Windows 7

There are 2 Ways to Recover or Reset your Windows Vista or Windows 7 Password

1) Use the Password Reset Disk which you hopefully had created earlier. Somehow i believe you didn’t do that, hence the reason why you’re reading this blog article today.

2) Use Free or Premium Password Recovery Software to Reset the Password. I’ve covered the Top 3 Free and Premium Windows Password Recovery Tools in a later post. You can click on the link to read more on that.

As you can see its not difficult for anyone to access your Computer without even knowing your Windows login. Dont take chances, protect yourself with Laptop Encryption.

This is a trial software that has been designed specifically for IT Professionals to experience Windows 7 Enterprise on behalf of their organization.

It is not recommend that you install this if you are a not an IT Professional or not professionally managing corporate networks.

Guidelines on usage:

• Protect your PC and data. Definitely back up your data and it is not recommended to test Windows 7 on your primary home or business PC.
• You have 10 days to activate the product. If not activated within 10 days, the system will shut down once every hour until activated.
• The 90-day Trial is the full working version of the Windows 7 Enterprise, the version most corporates will be using. It does not require a product key (it is embedded with the download).
• The 90-day Trial will shut down once every hour when you have reached the end of the 90-day evaluation period.
